Intelligent Speed Assistance Adaptation
This allows the bus(es) to be limited to the speed limit in the zone it is in by using a GPS system reading the speed limits in the zone where the bus is around and sets the limit to the maximum of the bus' capabilities therefor when drivers accelerate and reach the limit, say 20mph the bus won't override 20mph.
This technology is being tested on routes 19 and 486, TfL seeing the routes having different road environments. Here are the screenshots of what is given to the drivers.
Dearman engine; unveil of heat hybrid origin from a diesel.
This technology uses a standard diesel engine, which is adapted to use divert the wasted diesel in the form of gas be re-used on the bus, so it is more efficient. By having the wasted diesel re-used decreases emissions coming out (diesel wasted = pollution released), it would act similar to a flywheel, which uses the energy wasted when braking to accelerate the bus at the touch of the accelerator pad.
We should see the technology in use by early 2017 according to the creators. Let's hope we see improved diesels on our buses near Central London!
Right, moving on to London buses!
London Bus Route 358, arrival of the new MECs.
MBK1 and MEC11 have formed as the type training buses in Orpington (MB) for the arrival of the Euro6 Mercedes Citaro O530 12m buses for route 358, which have a similar body design to MBK1 but don't forget MBK1 is 10.5m midibus and the MECs ordered are 12m full size single decks!
The first of the new MECs should arrive next week.
New ADL and BYD alliance, formation of the BYD Enviro200MMC.
Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and Build Your Dreams (BYD) have formed an alliance for the order of BYD buses for Waterloo (RA) and Mandela Way (MW) for routes 507 and 521 which were recently retained with a total of 51 new electric buses. Go-Ahead London have recently ordered BYD eBus K9 (coded EB) in late 2013 and Irizar i2e (coded EI), two buses of the types therefor 4 electric in total.
An example of the current BYD K9's in service at Waterloo (RA)/Mandela Way (MW) |
The BYD Enviro200MMC will have the same chassis as the current EB1/2, they will also contain the new Enviro200 MMC body designed by ADL for their lightwork and agility which should be famous in the UK bus market.
Other BYD Enviro200 MMCs have been reported as rumours for route 46 from King's Cross (KC/KX*) to arrive with the ones ordered by Go-Ahead London for their 507 and 521.
Info: The total capacity of the BYD K9 all electric is 65.
The unveil of the new BYD all electric double decker
These are peculiar as they look ugly for our modern bus fleet in London, these have a total capacity of below 80, around 70-80 margin. These buses take up a lot of battery space and seem to narrow the lower deck to around 8.9m passenger space. Their length are 10.2m. These buses will work on route 16 operated by Metroline from Cricklewood (W) alongside LT543-563 with a PVR of 18 (LTs) and 4 other buses, assuming they are the BYD electric.

* - KX is a new garage to help the win of route 168 from Arriva London North by shifting Holloway (HT) route 17 to the new King's Cross (KX) garage which will have facilities for double deckers like the old garage, the new garage should be located in the same area as King's Cross (KC), the one that replaced the old one which has facilities for single decks (otherwise can house double deckers).
