2024 now before

Same old. Year recap.

Year recap of 2024.

Better than 2022 I'd still say.

Control eventually settled into curtailing southbound buses at Streatham, then dead run via 319 and 219 to Tooting Broadway to pick up line of route. Some lost mileage. In comparison, the 333 among the Streatham routes after Low Traffic Neighbourhood was implemented, was one of the strongest performers.

As far as the SL5 itself goes, started off well with healthy passenger loads!

First day syndrome as normal, though it was completely upside down at some points in the afternoon.
For this first day, posts circulating that 5 enthusiasts were fighting to get front seats to obtain visuals.
The first week continued with dread, unreliable LTs being substituted in/out, along with a tree that fell down around New Road. Conventional (non-LT) buses are common on the route now.
All in all, patronage for SL3 from observations across people suggests it picked up very quickly, even among schoolkids. Packed buses being regular in the first two weeks, despite service issues down to roadworks.
Even more so when trains are down, full standing loads were reported by drivers during such an evening example. Thamesmead to Sidcup seems to have settled as the more popular traffic flow, great thing it's original plan to be a Bromley-Bexleyheath route was changed, thanks in part to councillors whom persuaded TfL to extend SL3 further to connect with the Elizabeth Line.
Unfortunately for Bromley (TB) engineers, RATP gave the ex-9 LTs in a poor state which meant multiple conventional E400s would be normal on SL3. Great they were blinded with hindsight. The worse part is Enviro200s would stray on 61, unfortunately again, 246's Enviro200s weren't blinded for route 61 unlike 314's Enviro200s are. Which meant banditry paper displays, hindsight is now 2020.
First SL3: LT120 at 05:00

The 242 having been at Arriva since inception changes hands to Stagecoach. Allegedly the loss down to driver costs, as upon the loss it was announced changes to driver pay and terms and conditions.
Looking objectively at past tenders, Arriva were the only bidder for 242 previous rounds. Perhaps another scenario akin to Go-Ahead and route 63 whereby it's previous tender history was similar, only to wound up lost to Abellio for a decent margin cheaper than Go-Ahead.
Adding insult to injury, 242's under Stagecoach dead run into Hackney (HK) for changeovers during all evenings and on weekends, with N242 having an extra bus in schedule.
Speaking of N242, Arriva accidentally ran this night of buses. The final night should've been on the 23rd. Meanwhile, Stagecoach's buses weren't logged into the system but were definitely running, none appearing on LVF with only one appearing on countdown systems if lucky.
Another example of an operator forgetting they weren't meant to operate is ironically Stagecoach - the temporary 588 operated alongside 388's first day of extension from Hackney Wick to Stratford City.
Electroliners confirmed in January, of course delayed. This meant a motley crew of diesels on other routes whom provided hybrids for the 242 that enters a Central London ULEZ whereby contracted routes require hybrids as a minimum.

Following this loss, Ash Grove (AE) closed down with sole route 254 moving out to reopened Stamford Hill (SF).
From this point, Stamford Hill (SF) and Clapton (CT) fully operated using LT vehicles.
Stamford Hill (SF) returns to being fully LT-operated - being the first garage to do so between mid-2019 and mid-2020 when 67 converted. However the 318 would move in with the loss of 67.
Clapton (CT) will join as another only-LT-operated garage.

Destined date for 86 to go electric. Lea Interchange (LI) take on part of the route (13 duties), 7 buses physically operated from there.

Apparently Wright working on a new double deck design, just recently also announced making a hydrogen coach vehicle.
Go-Ahead MVB1 crashed into a BMW apparently.
Seems the ex-78, now SL1 Enviro400 Cities mechanical woes stemmed from an engineering manager (now fired) who allowed the buses to run to the ground, many waiting parts but due to budget constraints, little has been done.

Electroliner demo at Sutton (A) enters service on route 151.

First non-Superloop bus on SL3 is 12362, E40Hs being rare on routes other than 684 at Bromley (TB).

Sole 9.7m StreetLite at Lea Interchange (LI) has been withdrawn.

2nd: Croydon/Sutton awaited changes happened. The 439 introduced. The 455 withdrawn. The S2 introduced. Many reroutes.
Very little publicity if none at all. Some Oyster members received emails, some have not.
In East London, 325 changeover and new Superloop SL2.

Route 434
The intended reroute of 434 to accommodate 439 using some of 434's roads south of Purley has been indefinitely delayed due to road infrastructure issues in Kenley with 434 routed along 407's route instead in the interim, the 407's cut south of Croydon also delayed indefinitely, this means no new 443.
By the way, the 434 failed it's route test multiple times in it's intended new route along Higher Drive.
Unlike the other route changes today, there has been no need for paper to be displayed, as buses were binded for the Caterham extension.
It goes from 20-25 mins stand time at Whyteleafe to having 20 mins stand time at both Caterham and Coulsdon.

Route 439
No timetables posted on route. Very little publicity if none at all. Some Oyster members received emails, some have not. Stopping arrangements constantly changing in the background before the date came in the Waddon Marsh area, Go-Ahead essentially chasing TfL for confirmation.
Oddly, some 455 bus stops in Croydon gained 439 e-tiles.
Day 1 was rather empty, with plenty of confusion understandably.
Day 2 (Sunday) had some buses with near-full seated loads, people immediately understanding on their own terms, since TfL have little to help in awareness of the service. Waddon Marsh has an S4 timetable but no 439 timetable for example.

Route S2 started with new SEe304-312, replacing St Helier-Sutton from route S4, whilst also replacing Sutton-Epsom from route 470. Notably S2 terminating at Clock Tower instead of General Hospital as planned and consulted on whilst the section belonged to route 470.
It's first Sunday in service has proven more popular than anticipated with relatively healthy start, for a section that had no service under route 470 - the Epsom end that is.
Route 470 has been cut back from Epsom to Sutton, standing with route 407 at Marshall Road (it converted from dual door to single door for a while in anticipation of this happening earlier).
Route S3 and 470 had a minor swap in routeing in Sutton Common, allowing S3 to be a little faster/more-direct whilst the shortened 470 has been made the more local route.

Route S4 has been cut back from St Helier to Sutton. It's been extended from Roundshaw to Waddon Marsh Sainsbury's part replacing 455, with a frequency increase to match 455's frequency of every 20 Mon-Sat and 30 Sun/eve.
Abellio Transport UK Group failed to add inserts or change blinds on some buses, whilst some buses did have blinds (seemingly only 367's YX16-reg MMCs on the day, reblinded for 404) most of the 'temporary' YX10-reg E200s to Waddon Marsh buses needed to have paper in the windscreen, they chose larger A3 paper at least - some didn't even have this luxury and just displayed "Roundshaw" as normal with no indication it's going further.
TfL's incompetence this time is on iBus, "Sutton Bushey Road" (no comma). The S4 shares it's terminus with 407 which is on Marshalls Road, 407s displaying "Sutton Town Centre" whereas Bushey Road is at Sutton Station where 164 terminates, now joined by 470.

Route 455 withdrawn, meaning no buses serving St Peters Road in South Croydon. No indirect route end-to-end on largely two flows either side of Croydon stitched into a singular mesh.
Neither 166 nor S4 will provide replacement for 455's schoolday extras (Waddon-Old Lodge Lane in morning, Haling Park School to Wallington in afternoon). Arguably 645 already provides for one morning journey of 455, if only 645 was introduced in tandem now as opposed to much earlier. Now we have real capacity being taken away.

Route 166 rerouted away from Brighton Road, onto Pampisford Road. Perfectly replacing 455's frequency of every 20 with route 166's every 20 frequency. This doesn't consider the already long route 166 being made even slower for long distance users unfortunately.

Route 312 extended from South Croydon via Purley onto Old Lodge Lane, replacing route 455 and giving the area a capacity boost that TfL argues is needed, especially in the future. It's EMCs have been towed away from Croydon (TC) to Sidney House whilst ENLs freshly freed from loss of 325 has replaced the allocation. Some mentioned being driven into Beddington. Perhaps that's Sidney House.
These ex-325 ENLs didn't have blinds put in so 312s have been running around banditised, with small A4 paper in the windscreen only on the front, not on the side and/or rear. No blinded number displays even, unlike with SL2.
Notably the 312 is still on it's electric contract, downgraded to diesels as the existing electrics can't handle the route. This fact seemingly overshadowed by the storm caused by 28's tender award some while prior.

Route 450 temporarily partially converted to 10.2m SEe's to release 9.7m models to 439.
To accommodate space for S2 at Sutton (A), the 80 moved to Goat Road (GM) whose allocation there consists of WHV71-80 meaning Sutton (A) is fully electric minus the DOEs due to 151's issues at Worcester Park.
Route S1 moving back from Goat Road (GM) to Croydon (C) whose space freed by 455 withdrawal.

Throughout the Croydon/Sutton changes there's still been poor publicity, with some stops having correct tiling, some not.

Over in East London.

Superloop SL2 started on this date, using HAs freed from 133/333 loss which required mechanical work upgrades as apparently only in the last month did Brixton (BN) neglect them as opposed to most of their life with the odd weird roaring bus or even weirder issues obvious to bystanders, let alone engineers. In the same hand Brixton (BN) maintained HVs stellar well, but the HAs clearly an unwanted child. The HAs have the old Brixton (BN) blindset but with inserts plastered on.
Only a few buses were wrapped in Superloop livery [HA39/45/52/53], a far cry from a decent fraction on other routes (and pretty much all LTs on SL3). This is a TfL issue, granted. Same people who do adverts on buses. All the buses had their Brixton (BN) codes removed with most receiving Barking (DX) codes. Some priority of visuals I suppose.
There is a contingency plan for SL2s to divert via 325/366 in the case North Circular Road is difficult to pass through.
On first day the first non-Superloop bus was DW333! Banditised with a large paper "SL2"
Drivers lost. First bus 20 minutes late. All buses not displaying adequate blinds (only SL2 on number blinds), despite apparently HAs receiving inserts (rather than blinds, TfL cost cutting apparently). What a mess this day was for SL2.
End of the first day during enthusiast space, the forum was focused on the blind issues whilst on Facebook it's been focused on the excess of enthusiasts. During the evening, someone was sent by Arriva to adjust DW333's blinds to display white, with a laminated SL2 card.
Day 2 (Sunday), buses have been seen blinded. May have been a programming issue all along, albeit some have their rear displays stuck on other routes [e.g 19] but this certainly a marked improvement, one where new potential passengers immediately recognise this new route's termini and can decide if they should ride or not.
Turns out blinds may have been delivered late on Friday night. Indeed the buses have been in use on Tramlink rail replacement, but doesn't excuse the fact none could display a destination(s) at all on the first grand day of a politicised network of express buses. No TfL media posts unlike with previous first days either, it seems.
Apparently someone also got into trouble for not making enough effort into the blinds, as some buses definitely could've been blinded. Drivers refused to take buses out until given printed paper.
In addition, DW333 was sent out on 175 on the 5th March with it's "SL2" card in the front number blind, free advertising for the people in Romford I suppose.

In good news, Gants Hill to Barking link restored after 14 years (since 179 was cut from Barking to Ilford).

The 325 changed hands from Arriva to Go-Ahead, having been at Barking (DX) for over a decade since 2010. Starting life not at Henley Road (DS) allegedly but at River Road (RR)...
One could look back on Arriva's tenure on 325. Going from a genuine improvement over Stagecoach at the time with lacklustre service then, Arriva then providing good service. To later years after Deutsche Bahn found themselves as owners of Arriva whereby multiple slips and cracks in the wider company have occurred. Least of which, Barking (DX). In service and one could argue, maintenance. Morale has certainly been worsened from loss of 173, a route that has been there for several decades dating to Grey Green era.
Fun story, a health and safety union member was the reason the route failed an ENX test despite every other driver safely operating an ENX on the route, the member even alleging some TfL diversions are unsafe in ENLs which TfL promptly ignore.
Now it goes from one batch of diesel Enviro200s to a batch of Enviro200s.
At it's new home, it's had temporary allocation sorted from 61-reg SEs new to 276 which have found themselves as temporary buses on route 200 whilst Metrodeckers are still grounded, the few 61-reg have been topped by homeless 65-reg SEs too which have been temporary allocations on routes 265 and 366. Some of these that transferred from Merton (AL) had their rear blinds stuck on 200, which isn't bad as front displays were blinded, compared to the atrocities shown on 312/SL2 this date.

Route 164's supposed extension from Sutton to Sutton Hospital did not occur, still delayed, as no doubt infrastructure still not present to terminate the route there.

In addition to this chaos, iBus department changed "Ilford" display to "North Woolwich" weirdly, definitely in conjunction to new route SL2 which merely passes Ilford.

Route 309 had it's evening frequency increase as part of the Aberfeldy reroute consultation,
Route 238 transferred from West Ham (WH) to Barking (BK), this route move was long speculated until this point.

Perhaps the blind issues were down to McKenna not delivering in time one argued, 12 weeks they usually took. Being the only supplier now, with the push to LEDs, they've also increased prices of blinds accordingly, making use of the scarcity in demand.
Apparently future bus refurbishments will mandatory have LED displays and USB charging. Frankly a shame it's taken this long when new buses were specified in 2024 to contain these as mandatory, whilst being optional between 2020-2024 for LEDs, USB mandatory since 2019 with 232's StreetLites being the first mandatory.

It's reported ADL are not making any more hydrogen buses due to being too complicated. Stagecoach parked their ten 23-reg buses at Gilmoss depot on the scrap line, buses that have never seen service. The Enviro400 Fuel-Cell seems to have been ridden with faults, hence this decision. This would later be confirmed by ADL as false as the Enviro400 FCEV is on offer for customers, meanwhile Arriva's E400FCEVs would also enter service, very similar batch to Stagecoach's.
New Routemaster refurbishments long been past halfway, Abellio using RGI, Arriva using Thorntons, Go-Ahead using Hants & Dorset, Metroline using Falcons, Stagecoach at ADL.

9th: 379 changed from Go-Ahead to Stagecoach, from StreetLites that aged to be unreliable needing extras drafted in from Orpington (MB) from time to time - into electric Metrocities whom drain charge faster than anticipated. Since the Metrocities didn't arrive on time and late, as always with Optare/Switch Mobillity, existing diesels were sourced from 124 which temporarily using W5's Metrocities due to issues related to charging infrastructure at Walthamstow (AW) not making W5 use it's own buses.

Route 346/347/497 changes whereby 497 withdrawn and 346 extended to Harold Hill. There's now 16 duties Mon-Fri; 15 Saturday; 9 Sunday - for a PVR of 6 to cover this new restructure. Running numbers 451-456. Driver changeovers at Upminster Station with ferries on Mon-Sat daytime in use from Rainham (RM) to Elm Park to get the District Line. On Sunday and evenings the ferry would drive straight from depot to Upminster.
As for 347 not being withdrawn... it's currently deemed politically volatile after outer London ULEZ implemented (especially with Mayoral elections soon), serving the only exclave of Greater London outside the M25 in North Ockendon. Seems Thurrock, responsible for the section of 347 between St Marys Lane and Ockendon, are refusing to pay TfL whom provide route 347 there.

The 76 changed back, returning to Arriva's Tottenham (AR) amidst driver issues at Go-Ahead's Northumberland Park (NP) which meant the 76 part moved to Stockwell (SW) for a short period of time in a similar fashion to when 19 was split between Stockwell (SW) and Northumberland Park (NP) - albeit 19's issue was physical space at Stockwell (SW).
LT8xx new to route 76 have been swapped with LT4xx at Camberwell (Q) in the few months prior to this takeover, this is to coincide the LTs' age with contract end dates of bus routes that have LTs, at TfL's request by the looks of it.
A notice also in South London garages, Thornton Heath (TH) and Norwood (N) for drivers to move to 76 rota, seemingly this region having more spare drivers since the loss of many routes. Still, 15 agency drivers hired, as some 254 drivers jumped onto the 76 rota. Either way both 76/254 from Stamford Hill (SF) so work is still being balanced.

This round, the original tenderer withdrew, perhaps it was Go-Ahead, who could say for sure... in any event, with the loss of Epsom Buses the very few bits of non-Go-Ahead in Sutton have diminished to just route S3 with Abellio.
As of this date, it was unknown what electric buses were ordered, if ordered at all. In the meantime some of E5's electric buses have been transferred to Fulwell (TF) allowing H20's diesel MMCs to service S3. Route 276 fully converted to it's electrics with half Volvo BZLs and half of W11's 9.4m Metrocities (tracking error) on this date, from temporary Enviro200s directly/indirectly released from loss of 366 and D3 to Go-Ahead last year.
In addition, the electric buses, with their nicer looking Mobitec displays, had a frequent issue of wrong/blank displays, banditised for short.

Routes 366 and 376 changed depots; 366 from Henley Road (DS) to River Road (RR); 376 from Silvertown (SI) to Henley Road (DS).
Route 482 moved from Hayes (DH) to Southall (GW) making space before E6 takeover.

30th: Transport UK controller strikes again, on 8-10 May and 13-17 May. Once again this affects Fulwell (TF) and Battersea (QB) depots. Once again conveniently depots operating routes 111 and 322 which spelled a downturn in the company.
Uno received demo 10.3m BYD Enviro400EV

May

4th: Announced only in January, the 28's award from RATP to Metroline West sent shockwaves. Fully allocated electrics on it's current diesel contract, to a diesel contract with diesel buses older than it's previous allocation! Plus a PVR increase of +1! The tender caused so much disbelief that people assumed the tender was fake, in spite of realistic retention of routes 17 and 395. The timing of the result revealed RATP on a 7 year plan.
The 28 follows a move similar to 295 in making Willesden Junction (WJ) it's home, joining with long time buddy 31.
End result of over 50 drivers TUPE'd from RATP to Metroline, likely shifting any pay issues (remember the strikes at Westbourne Park?) to the other operator

22nd: Route 376 converted to it's new electric buses

24th: Posters for new consultation (site private) spotted along route 14/414 detailing withdrawal of route 414. No consultation yet as a result of another purdah, no longer Mayor elections but now country general elections as a result of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calling a surprise election.

25th: E6 changed hands from Metroline to Abellio with the first batch of Wright GB Kite Electroliner single decker buses.
Route E1 went back home at Metroline, RATP surrendering the contract early, losing the route on tender. Thus, a hybrid route not yet extended to Osterley as promised, is a diesel route not to be extended to Osterley until end of contract in 2027 (unless plans change).

By this point several E40H MMCs at Battersea (QB) have adopted LED displays, buses on route 344. Some are unrefurbished 15-reg of course giving quite a contrast of worn and brand new.

3th: Off-peak fare trial on London Underground ends.

In addition (1016) moved from Battersea (QB). Furthermore, diesels to-be-ex-E5 for 404 have moved in an equivalent exchange, 3 buses from Southall (GW) to (BC) and 3 from (BC) to (TF).

12th: Consultation results from U1/U2/U3/E7 proposals is that; no changes to all routes (except U2 will serve Oak Farm Estate at all times as proposed).

15th: Optare MetroDecker Me14 returns to service on 200, as the first of the type following the fire in Wimbledon by sibling bus, which caused the type to be recalled and placed into storage temporarily.

16th: Arriva ES53 crashed in a test run in Ireland, this continues the unusual trend of crashes on the rare Arriva bus fresh from factory, such as HV353 on delivery. No Electroliner has burst to flames (like original HV106 did) thus far.

29th: 211 finally rerouted to Battersea Power Station, along with 77 changing stands in Waterloo.
211 returned to home Battersea (QB) home, it's reroute allowing driver changeovers at both termini. 211 now utilising existing LTs used on 111 and 133, RATP keeping the LT664-681 (new to 68, transferred to RATP upon 211 being won by RATP from Abellio), LT664-681 transferring to Hounslow (AV) for just-retained H98. The 465 also returning to a place it was once home for a short while - Fulwell (TF), albeit start had banditised buses displaying paper on the windshield presumably to lack of blinds. This is from it's RATP abode at Tolworth (TV) which was rather short lived compared to Epsom Buses.

16th: RATP VH45119 on 18 crashes into a shop in Harrow Road, Maida Vale

18th: H98 sees it's New Routemasters, released from 211 loss.
By this point route 247 has started seeing route 242's Electroliners, likely down to issues electrifying Hackney (HK)

19th: Largest IT outage in history with Microsoft Windows devices stuck on the infamous Blue Screen of Death, due to an issue with a cyber security software update (one file that causes errors allowed to run at kernel level - complete control in operating system), affecting many serves with bitlocker. This means issues with flights in airports with higher levels of issues in the US and UK and flights from both countries due to their dependency on that software for cybersecurity, and even more chaos at banks, media, emergency services, trains and other companies. This is all in multiple countries around the world. The reason? Faulty update on by Crowd Strike, the cyber security company who accidentally caused billions of dollars in damages quicker than hackers have done. The CEO denied answering if the update was ever tested or not (translation: it wasn't). This ex-McAffee CEO has track record of a McAffee update putting devices in a boot-loop on Windows XP devices.  On the upside Linux and Mac users were not affected. Cyber criminals quickly took advantage by supplying fake emails luring people who need their devices unlocked. Ironically Russia was not affected at all due to sanctions, Crowd Strike no longer offered in Russia since invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Some LTs transfer from Stockwell (SW) to Highgate (HT) for route 17's full conversion to the type (from a mix of electric BDEs and hybrid LTs, that contract having hybrid conventional B5LHs)
Refurbs of B5LH Gemini 3s at Norwood (N) have been seen, they have Mobitec LEDs - converted from smartblinds; newer iBus screens - instead of legacy iBus dot-matrix displays; the four seats behind rear doors marked as priority seating. All of these standard on new bus specifications in 2024, now refurbishments will follow these specifications moving forward.

21st: Following on from largest computer outage in history, is the largest data breach in history. Snowflake lost a lot.

22nd: Despite high positive feedback, N518 consultation not going ahead, TfL going back to the drawing board. Costs perhaps too optimistic for N18 full route and N518 to be every 15 on weekend nights, with near an extra £100K per year cost as opposed to status quo of N18 shorts to Sudbury and N18 full route at every 15 and 30 respectively.

23rd: Arriva London South moves planned, 50 and 194 to Thornton Heath (TH) from Brixton (BN) and Croydon (TC) respectively. 410 swaps with 194 by going from TH to TC. 198's buses move from TH to Norwood (N) with drivers remaining at TH - exactly same operation as 157 under Arriva. All postponed.
New ESs delivered in South London as part of Croydon awards (50 250 etc)
Route 273 consultation (from Hail & Ride to fixed stop) goes ahead.

25th: Metroline TEH1227 at Potters Bar (PB) becomes of the first hybrid buses as driver trainers.
Ex-Abellio 8524 made it to Ukraine, donated to a Ukraine charity.

26th: Paris Olympics opening ceremony day celebrated by the Parisians in the form of arsoning many train lines and associated equipment of the SNCF rail network, and allegedly defecating in the River Seine...again.

27th: Route 259 moved from Edmonton (EC) to Tottenham (AR)

29th: A 17-year old boy killed three young girls and 10 more people injured in Southport, which would spark anti-immigration far right riots.

31st: A bus driver on 106 was fatally murdered outside duty in a stabbing incident in Stoke Newington, the suspect in a fit of road rage.
R70 sees it's own Kite electrics enter service on R70. These are later revealed in October to be financed by Asset Alliance Group on a 7-year lease, the first deal between them and TUK.

August

2nd: Go-Ahead plan on extending lease of Morden Wharf (MG) to 2047. Leased from Greenwich Council and allegedly built illegally.
Sullivan Buses surrenders all of it's TfL contracts (217 298 299/389/399 W9 and more) and South Mimms (SM) to be closed in favour of site in North Mymms (NM) which served as their engineering site. Interestingly it's on a separate operating license, which means that, when commercial services move there, it is immune.

3rd: Sullivans have quit TfL operations yesterday. Route 231 had extras as a result.
The following has happened within 10 hours notice, with services from 0900, so no buses prepared, no blinds or Electronic Ticketing Machine dutycards:
Route 217 operated by Arriva from Tottenham (AR) on emergency timetable
Route 298 operated by Uno on emergency timetable, not operating after 1800
Route 299 operated by Go-Ahead on emergency timetable (70% service) and spare diesel Enviro200s and some commerical E200s
Routes 327 389/399 suspended until further notice
As of noon, 327 to be operated by Metroline from Potters Bar (PB)
Route 549 operated by Stagecoach from West Ham (WH) albeit did not operate on this day. It uses it's old single-door bus 36037 and an old schedule, like it was never lost.
Route W9 operated by Stagecoach from Hackney (HK) and not Walthamstow (AW). First bus 37757 at 11:30
Overground rail replacement 720 (Harrow-on-the-Hill to Watford Junction) operated by RATP on emergency timetable
School routes 605 606 617 629 to be retendered before schools start in September. All won by Metroline.

Signs have been placed en-route to help drivers navigate, due to the short notice of the operations.

None of the services track on iBus/countdown as it takes 4-5 weeks to do so minimum.
None of these are contracted either, in a similar fashion to tube strikes these are £xxx paid by bus used.
Little to no fare revenue collected by TfL as a result. Well, minimal when buses ETM's logged into emergency mode.

A damning reddit posts reveals that Sullivans would've ended up owing TfL money due to how bad the performance of services was. What they could've earned in profit was outweighed by the fines they would incur from the lack of service operation. If you have forgotten, 298 and W9 would regularly have very minimal or no evening service.
The rail replacement 720 was using buses without Oyster readers (Thorpe Park buses and Hertfordshire buses) meaning TfL had no revenue from those buses. If a rail replacement service was meant to be every 10, it'd wind up being every 90 due to terrible service regulation and no service pilots or... becoming lost due to few drivers knowing the routes.
School buses would arrive in schools *after* school has ended and kids left.

Another further reveals the poor communication.
Vervatum "Please note as of Saturday 03rd August sullivan buses are no longer driving tfl routes so please do not come to work" great grammar and capitalisation. Great thanks and a send off to your now ex-employees.
There's more information on Sullivan Buses Fan Club on Facebook... than on his own site and socials.
Wages weren't paid, agency driver or not, for months.
Underfunded maintenance, hence many buses Vehicle Off Road and general shoddy condition of buses.
Drivers then told to take those buses out in their poor condition.
Toxic work environment due to managers. No wonder there were driver shortages as seen in 298 W9 poor performance.
All this culminated in lack of serviceable buses for a small rail job, and perhaps even their main services...

Sullivans had no facility to provide manual data compilation to TfL as automatic ones via ETM and iBus would often be incomplete (perhaps explains some 298 performance graph having blank instead of a number)

TfL also withheld £130,000 fee...
It doesn't look good if TfL already take individuals to court over £1.80!

Lastly, Sullivans Bus and Coach is into receivership... a step before liquidation.

Route 19/N19 moved from Tottenham (AR) to Stamford Hill (SF), buses being parked at SF in a similar fashion to 34 and 157 from last year and before.

5th: Metroline on 389/399 from Potters Bar (PB) on this day only
New Routemasters with mirrors replaced by camera mirrors, so far at Walworth (WL), bringing enhanced visibility when raining and in the night.

6th: Go-Ahead took over 389/399 using an available wheel-forward StreetLite.

7th: 7 days into UK riots, 423+ people arrested, many innocent civilians of colour harassed, many police injuries, with looting everywhere and damage everywhere. It has affected most cities in the UK with London being least affected at this point in time.

9th: A statement on TfL's side regarding Sullivan Buses. Sullivans operated only 82% of their services compared to 97% as a network average. Thereby affecting many Londoners with long gaps in service. Some school buses regularly failing to show up. TfL did enter discussions with Sullivans, and TfL decided to activate the contracts' break clause in a controlled manner. Though Sullivan beat them to it by giving up everything on that Friday at 4pm.
...By this point, nearer 600 people arrested in the UK riots and Police website banned outside UK to reduce false calls which distract the police force, with one hateful Facebook user arrested for his hate speech.

10th: 347 back on death row it seems. Seven months since TfL tried to kill 347 in a fusion of 346-347-497 but instead left 347 as-is with much outcry.
Go-Ahead received deliveries of Fastrack's new Irizar Tram buses, very identical to 358's buses.

15th: The 64 started conversion to electric ESs which will allow the 217 to use the Ts from 64.

16th: By this point one or few 299s have appeared on countdown, tracking

17th: Some ex-Sullivan routes appear on countdown and iBus in general. The 217 using ex-64 Enviro400s, the W9 with ex-W5 Solos (logos removed, perhaps about to be decommissioned) with the rest as status-quo from before.
The 298 will start tracking from September. It's running a timetable running at every 30 mins on all hours of operation, instead of the previous every 40 (with some gaps).

Piccadilly Line part closures begin in preparation for it's newer trains. Wood Green to Cockfosters closed for two weeks. Reduced service between Wood Green and Acton Town (every 4 mins and 5 mins). No service from Rayners Lane to Uxbridge.

Route 259 moved from Edmonton (EC) to Tottenham (AR), it immediately started seeing conventional HVs - after being permanently operated with LTs for some years.
Route 217 went the other way, from Tottenham (AR) to Edmonton (EC).

19th: The most ambiguous tender award in recent history, the much delayed route 18 award. Vehicle type To Be Confirmed, Peak Vehicle Requirement also TBC, Contract end date also TBC. Seems 18 didn't receive another bidder in addition to TfL and RATP perhaps not budging in their negotiations.
20th: Rhys Hand, responsible for many collapsed bus operations (CityFox, Foxstar, Transpora SW) has had his operating license banned for 5 years.

23rd: Traffic Commissioner summons Sullivan Buses in September

24th: Route 217 restored to frequency (every 12 M-Sat, already 20 on Sunday/evenings).
A casual comment reveals N271 is numbered as N263 on tender (as 263/N263), though in the eyes of the public might remain N271, who knows.

25th: New carnival route: 7X (East Acton to Paddington) it is a limited stop service stopping at some stops, as opposed to 36X and previous services that stop all-stops for a portion then a non-stop section.
A shame 2X remains dead, joining the history book martyrs of 205X and 436X.
Among the diversions of regular routes, 18 receives extras operating from Stonebridge Park to Baker Street in the Carnival afternoon/evening.

29th: A harrowing reveal is Peter Hendy having had relations with a prostitute where he gifted her £10 topped-up Oysters which she had no use for as she did not use public transport. Amazing £140 per hour... perhaps these could've been buried if he didn't sack someone for simply doing health and safety properly.

31st: New route 310 (Stamford Hill to Golders Green) begins it's 1-year contract today albeit starting tomorrow, operated by Stagecoach using 8 existing diesel single decks released from 165 temporary double deck conversion with released ex-86 Enviro400s. Interestingly out of the two bids Stagecoach were a higher bidder, though have newer buses than what is assumed to be Metroline, and offered a sooner start date. This was announced exactly a month prior. This was the promised route from Khan's pledge for a bus route linking areas that weren't linked before, which were also asked many times in history, and will link major Jewish communities.
It should be noted 310 only operates from 0700-1900 with a frequency of every 20 minutes
To source buses, route 165 has converted to double deckers, allowing it's E200MMCs to be used on new 310.

14th: London Bus Museum running day on bus route 61. ADL E400EV at Bromley (TB).

Go-Ahead Enviro200 184 involved in an accident whilst on route 138.

15th: Ethiopia becomes the first country in the world to ban imports of combustion vehicles (diesel/petrol), whilst having only one electric charging place in it's capital Addis Ababa. The country is also low on foreign reserve currency and people experience queues waiting for fuel as there are shortages sometimes.
Welsh drivers demand 1500 roads reverted from 20mph to 30mph, roughly 7 in 10 residents

17th: New round of Oxford Street pedestrianisation plan, this time Westminster council is Labour-run instead of Conservative, and may go ahead... the council wasn't informed and were just as surprised as other readers. If businesses were supportive before but now see the reduction of buses as a negative to the business since then... they'd be geniuses to support again. Now what Oxford Street could do with it actual cafes and restaurants visible on the main street and shops and maybe a cinema so people will regularly visit. Anything similar to what Bluewater and Westfields have to make Oxford Street a great destination again. Hamburg for it's 'pedestrianised' city centre street is closed to regular traffic except buses which are at very low speeds. Some French cities have electric minibus shuttles for those who have difficulty or don't desire to walk, the option is there.
Sullivan Buses owe HMRC £1.3 million and to TfL they owe £367 thousand.

19th: By this point, Grays (GY) received some diesel Enviro400s for 370's frequency increase upon contract renewal. Several DB300s at the garage off-road by this point leaving one spare but that's fine.

20th: Apparently Morden Wharf (MG) will be replaced by a new garage on Warspite Road in Woolwich.
Go-Ahead SEe196 crashed into a shop in Raynes Park, the bus damaged quite a bit, especially at the front.

21st: W9 won by Metroline from Sullivan Buses who quit London. In the meantime, operated by Stagecoach using spare 9.6m buses aided by decommisioned ex-W5 short Solos.

Metroline have withdrawn from operating Hertfordshire's route 305, perhaps putting an end to the short DES fleet of Enviro200(s).

23rd: By this point, Wandsworth Council and Roehampton University have been operating a free bus that mirrors 265 between Roehampton Vale Asda and Putney Bridge. Since takeover from RATP  to Go-Ahead, the 265 has become notably more unreliable, enough to have a news article.

25th: On change.org there is a petition regarding route 65's poor performance, especially at the Ealing end.

27th: More BYD BD11s spotted for Go-Ahead, this time, it's EBD2.
Earth will have a temporary new moon for two months

October

2nd: 47 to convert to Electroliners, driver training underway, these buses likely the ones meant for 257 but can't utilise as Leyton (T) is not electrified yet.

3rd: Arriva Edmonton (EC) apparently had three buses crash inside, DW225 DW540 and T206.
ADL's press release said the second ever ADL E100EV order for London, Go-Ahead the first publicly confirmed London order of ADL E100EVs, 32 due to Orpington (MB) for 233 R1 R3 R4 R8

4th: United Kingdom frees another colonial possession, Chagos Islands, returned to Maruitius. Ending a half-century dispute. The UK is also the first advanced country to completely ditch coal power with the closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station..

5th: 201 661 retained on this date
Transport UK's Southall (GW) also saw buses crash inside it's garage, bus 2522 along with two electric Kites. In addition, an Enviro400 and an Enviro400 MMC from the same company crashed in Hayes. This totals 5 buses crashed on the same day.

6th: Two orders for Wright buses, route 247 with Electroliners for Stagecoach. Route 33 with Kite Electroliners for RATP.

8th: Water companies to pay back the millions they owe their customers in the form of lower bills. Over a £100 million, of them Thames Water owes it's customers £57 million.
Go-Ahead Group's Wrightbus order was so large it ended up on BBC News. 43 of the buses hydrogen for Metrobus but the rest of the 1200 to be electric buses. Some years of this massive order 'predominantly' dedicated to London. Furthermore, Wright will have a dedicated production line for Go-Ahead.

9th: Arriva Brixton (BN) sees it's BYD Enviro400EVs grounded for four hours of the morning, resulting in limited service on 319 using as many Electroliners as possible.
Arriva Kite Electroliner EKL1 spotted at RATP's Fulwell (FW), then promptly at it's company at Norwood (N).

10th: Reports of Colindale tube station closure spelling disaster for passengers. This is due to inadequate rail replacement NL-6 (Colindale to Hendon Central) which only runs during peak hours and not that frequent (using two buses). Buses on 186 would be crowded enough to have standees on the upper deck. Buses on 324 are also woefully crowded. Apparently three extra buses were added to NL-6's schedule, though that's still a moot issue.
An Arriva DWxxx had an infighting with a lampost.

11th: Details of ADL's new Enviro200EV revealed. Lengths in 9.9m 10.4m (TfL) 10.9m 11.7m. Width at 2.47m. These use more normal Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries unlike the E100EV/E400EV which use newer and tighter-packed Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt batteries. There wasn't space concerns on the E200EV due to plentiful roof space. The new E200EV is also shorter in height, allowing for weight savings. Smaller wheels like on the E100EV are usable too. Gross Vehicle Weight of 17200kg. Use of Voith Electrical Drive system, standard medium and a heavy-duty traction package for higher speeds or demanding routes.
Arriva DWxxx crashed into multiple cars in Croydon.

13th: New discovery! Christopher Colombus may have been a Spaniard of Jewish descent and born in Valencia... and not Genoa.

12th: 103 150 175 257 retained on this date

14th: A new 2024 tube stock for the Piccadilly Line has already been graffitied.

17th: Elizabeth Line has won a national architectural award, Sterling Award.
The previous government who scrapped HS2 north of Birmingham, the current government who pledged not to reinstate that, has now reinstated plan 2a - to Crewe. Not quite Manchester, but it is better. Analysis states the extension to Crewe will repay itself. This phase to Crewe will not be built by HS2 Ltd, but be built by a private consortium.
Brighton & Hove buy 9 of Sullivan Buses' Enviro400 MMCs previously used on route 217. Refurbished and will retain dual doors, replacing Volvo B5LHs on Brighton route 2.

18th: Plans to convert Transport UK Group's 2618 - a hybrid E40H MMC into an electric bus has been cancelled. This is due to the tender loss of 196 to Arriva which will start it's contract next year.

19th: King's Cross (KC) coming back next month...
BYD BD11E02 buses for 321 started appearing at New Cross (NX), for now EBD8. A few more entered the UK with the distinct white roof - these are for SL4. A few more red ones without garage codes believed to be for East for 101 or 473. Fleetnumbers for routes 321 333 101 473 SL4 all confirmed (EBD1-18/19-34/35-44/45-54-55-75). The 321 rumoured long ago to have on order Ee264-283 and 333 rumoured to have Ee275-291 have turned out to be false
22 retained on this date

22nd: Routes 30 205 consultation The 30 cut back to Euston. The 205 rerouted at Baker Street to Marble Arch. The 27 with various extra journeys in early mornings and late evenings on all days of week.

24th: More BYD BD11s spotted in China (these BYDs are all manufactured in Huangzhou), for Metroline! These are coded BDEs, which caused rumours that routes 90 and others would receive E400EVs - this turned out to be false. Also spotted is what's believed to be the demonstrator B12 bus, with it's red TfL livery. These BYDs also sport dual-gun charging and fast charging, among other features, lighter chassis, etcetera.

25th: Metroline announces deregistering commercial Hertfordshire route 242. This is only a few years after also letting go of 84.
Go-Ahead have bought more Sullivan Buses - AE26 one example, a 9.7m Enviro200 MMC contracted for W9. Joined by seemingly ex-airport Citaros. These will all be on Fastrack, which was intended to start service with 358's Citaros but now it's a bleak reality, Fastrack also has Irizar Trams on order just like 358, so they'll enter service later. Kent County Council used Bromley Bus Preservation Group's MAL15, an articulated Citaro O530G, to test Fastrack infrastructure, proving to be a success.

26th: In what could be a health and safety issue following the accidents in Victoria Bus Station, 14 and 37 are curtailed at Lytton Grove instead of Putney Heath Green Man. Lights are being changed at that bus station bus stands too, leaving no answer of this being a temporary or permanent change.
U1/U2 U3 U4 retained on this date

TUK's Electroliner, perhaps 3001, lost an offside rear wheel whilst on a diversion on 111 in Heston.

29th: The new iBus system being trialled in iBus rooms on routes 53 86 and 241, with added artificial intelligence input, to give drivers instructions to wait in regards to maintaining headway.
Poppy bus candidate for TUK is Electroliner 3031. Go-Ahead's candidate is EP4. RATP chose BCE47075.
Ancient Mayan city, the largest known, has been discovered in Mexico by accident.
New consultation: Bus lane on Bromley Road A21 for routes 47 136 171 199 etc

November

1st: Yesterday, perhaps linked to Halloween or not, Rainham has seen an escalation of bus attacks due to ULEZ (which started off with just destroying cameras)... an attempt of damage has been done to a 372 whilst fireworks were launched at a 287.
Rumoured bus orders that were quickly debunked; 52 BYDs rumoured for Stagecoach for 169 and 425 (a little too much buses, must've forgotten to fake 287 too); 23 Electroliners rumoured for Arriva's 41, 47 BZLs rumoured for Arriva's 405 and 466 (when the entire garage of double deck routes need new, singling these two when Thornton Heath wasn't is another telling sign). Rumour also mentions redeployment of 279s electrics to routes 50 and 250 at Brixton (BN) and Thornton Heath (TH)... debunked in the end but nicely timed fresh after a tender release.

2nd: 370 627 retained on this date
Stagecoach's pick for Poppy Bus is their Volvo BZL 86181, new for D7 but in service at Lea Interchange (LI)

3rd: Optare Metrocity 8.7m YJ74DGF spurred confusion as it is a demonstrator, in red, turned up at West Ham (WH), for Stagecoach, who have the type in service anyways. The confusion was involving a suspected hidden order of S3 which is still using diesel buses on it's electric contract with no sign of electric buses on the horizon.

6th: Donald Trump is confirmed to be the 47th President of the United States of America, beating Kamala Harris by a decent margin in both electoral votes and popular votes.
An article reveals London Fire Brigade safety issues over the bus garage rebuild in Edgware from electric bus fire risk, on it's own it's not too terrible but in addition to the shopping centre built above... it spells mayhem.
Wrightbus have purchased the bus refurbishment company, RGI Bus and Coach.
First to become a Flixbus coach operator next year with the new Yutong G12 coaches being based at their depots. This follows after acquisitions of family coach operations Lakeside Group and Anderson Travel

7th: ASLEF tube strike
First have switched their order of buses back to Wright. Reportedly their electrics are £430K per bus, whilst the integral BYD BD11 as low as £400K. The average electric bus price at £500K, though the integral E400EV is allegedly nearer £600K.

9th: 34 176 188 192 419 SL1 retained on this date

12th: Birmingham NEC event, BYD unveils their 11.8m B12 single deck electric alongside the known 10.9m BD11 double deck electric.
ASLEF second tube strike CALLED OFF
Better buses for Putney and Roehampton petition has started, this follows on Wandsworth Council and Roehampton University modifying one of their bus services to be free to all as an alternative to woefully unreliable 265.

14th: Overcrowding reports at Ruislip Lido, with extra demand and even more parked cars than previous year.

16th: Route 217 starts it's one-year temporary contract with Go-Ahead from Northumberland Park (NP) using diesel ex-First B9TLs from route 131 which were new to the very depot 217 is now operated from. Sullivan Buses quitting London operations meant Arriva operated the route, and even on short notice have operated it noticeably better than Sullivans have.
Likewise route W9 starts it's new 3-year contract also with diesels, these being available Enviro200s. Operated by Metroline from Potters Bar (PB).

17th: Yesterday, SL2 had a pair of stops on Royal Dock Road go live, which were meant to be during introduction of the route last year.
A few days ago, the updated Cronwell Road Bus Station in Kingston has opened, it's architectural design is very similar to West Croydon (circa 2016-Present). It doesn't have much Passenger Announcement systems, deliberately has no countdown screens by choice of TfL and developers it seems... despite being pleaded to for the sake of passengers - poor, there are infrequent routes, no public toilets - not ideal. Even signage for drivers to know where to park their bus had to be done afterwards.

18th: Now until 20th December, routs 146 cut from Downe to Keston due to water works. Shuttle minibus 546 from Downe to Keston (operated by Ensign) to allow connection onwards to/from Bromley.
An agency driver delivering a new BYD BD11 was caught using a phone whilst driving on the M25.

20th: Yesterday it was rumoured an Irizar would enter service on 358... it was true! IE6 was the third bus in service starting from Crystal Palace. It only took 4 years into an extendable 5 year contract.
Stagecoach 10196 on route 145 lost it's roof... to a tree?

21st: It turns out the Irizar IE Tram buses on 358 may have a shorter range than alternatives that didn't require infrastructure built (and in British fashion, completed much later than intended), the range seems to be 60 miles (around 3 rounders of 358) though in some cases may be as little as 35 miles (1.5 rounders).
Enfield (E) receives an Electroliner for 279, ES63.

22nd: Yesterday Wrightbus started offering a 6-cylinder Cummins engine option on the diesel Wright StreetDeck Ultroliner. Rumours say it's because of an order for buses that fell through due to difficulty obtaining a high quantity of 6-cylinder OM936 engines in a timely manner. This Cummins engine will be paired with a Voith BIWA.8 7-speed automatic. This type, with this engine and gearbox setup, is considered as Ultra Low Emission. Wright also state the Cummins diesel engine can be swapped for a Cummins hydrogen engine mid-life. Of couree, the OM934 remains an option on the bus type.

23rd: Arriva terminate route 248's contract early.

27th: New! The completely To-Be-Confirmed 18/N18 tender award has details spilled. New electrics for 18, the N18 to remain hybrid until 2030. RATP were the sole bidder, bidding for £16.7 million!
Metroline started temporary part conversion of route 31 to electrics releases from Holloway (HT) in preparation of 266 moving from RATP to Metroline as it's new electric buses will be late.

28th: Rail Nationalisation Act received royal assent. This means it will definitely happen in future. Worth noting some companies can only be done as early as next year, these being South Western Railway by May 2025, Great Western Railway by June 2025, the c2c by July 2025 and

30th: Mothballed King's Cross (KC) is back but solely for cleaning and overnight parking of buses on 30 and 274. A satellite garage. This is due to the transfer of 153 and C11 into Holloway (HT).
Route 298 started it's contract with Uno, brought forward from intended 3 February 2025. Full service is restored to regularly every 20 minutes Monday-Saturday.
A number of BYD BD11s for both Go-Ahead and Metroline stored in a site near RATP's Park Royal (RP).

December

3rd: South Western Railway confirmed to be renationalised as the first example under Great British Railways from May 2025.

4th: The quickest a President has become unemployed happened in South Korea. He enacted Emergency Martial Law (President takes full control over country and can arrest *anyone* on South Korean soil without approval from anyone, and immediately. TLDR: full power dictatorship) in the evening (in his no-prior notice address, to 'reign in the country from corrupt politicans'), within mere moments the population raced out to protest, a confidence vote of 190-0 against the martial law (unanimous decision!). The martial law only lasted a few hours, many South Koreans would be asleep through this entire chaos and wake up after it's been resolved.

7th: The 266 returns to Metroline, lost by RATP. Electric buses late is the norm, so, diesel VWs have been drafted in alongside VMHs from 31 part-electrification as well as 113. The 266 operating from Cricklewood (W) whom has lost the route many times to a depot located more central to the route around Harlesden. Alas, poorer service and regulation no more moving forward, hopefully.

Brixton (BN) suffered lower electricity in their buses, needing to charge at Thornton Heath (TH) whilst 417 converted to spare LTs and had lost mileage, the 50 had some B5LH Gemini 2's drafted from Norwood (N). Bus2grid is the source of this, the other garage to have this feature is Northumberland Park (NP) which is in an industrial area right next to the Victoria Line depot, in theory NP is more resilient than BN in a more residential area.

Blackpool Heritage Trams suspended indefinitely due to safety and general maintenance of the fleet.

10th: Bombshell news, First Group have bought the entirety of RATP's non-tourist London bus operations with 10 bus depots (V FW AV S are owned), RATP Dev Transit London, for £90 million (Stagecoach purchased Lea Interchange depot for £22 million!) The French company have £45 million in debt so far, and have successfully negotiated the tender of 18 to still be very profitable, though have lost 258 from the similarly high bid. In any case, London accounts to 46% of UK's bus market, so First Group have wanted to return for a while. Other parts of the UK adopting franchising has meant First would have to accept this - they lost some work in Manchester, after all, in future will also have to compete in another area they co-dominate. The stability of London is also cited in First Group's public statement. Only 40% of the bus routes are profitable, meaning 60% are loss making, with the early tender terminations and retentions at a more reasonable price (and routes lost, 28 C3 655) included in this statistic. Yikes. The transfer of ownership will happen by the end of the first half of 2025.

Transport UK Group take over 655 from RATP, the 655 had a one bidder result. ADL E40H 2442 has been transferred to Beddington Cross (BC) for the route.

15th: Go-Ahead EH343 on 197 struck the low bridge in Norwood Junction whilst in service.

16th: Metroline's BYD BD11 buses stored in Hayes (HZ) in the meantime.

17th: Route 358's 5 year extendable (to 7) contract has been further extended to April 2029, making it a 9 year contract that started in September 2020. No doubt this is due to the trialled Irizar IE Tram buses. It has also been revealed not long prior via a Freedom Of Information request that S3's contract has been negotiated for it to use existing diesels instead of electric buses as it was awarded with.

22nd: First Glasgow apparently returned some of their BYD Enviro200EVs to ADL for repairs due to corrosion on the roof where the battery meets, with water leaking into the saloon.

23rd: Metroline's first batch of BDEs have also been charged at Potters Bar (PB) recently.

24th: The first BYD B11Ds to enter service are EBD25 and EBD26 at Orpington (MB) on route 320. Talk about a Christmas present. These are buses meant for route 333, the reason for this is to release the diesel E400s for incoming wins 99 269 401 ar Bexleyheath (BX).
Kentish Town Northern Line station opens after it's 18-month closure for repairs.
Arriva HV204 reversed into a wall whilst on route W3, the rear windows have broken.

27th: Metroline's Kites for routes 153 C11 have started arriving at Holloway (HT), these are 10.2m, noticeably shorter than the 10.9m models (as we've seen with 255's 10.2m EKLs) when compared with TUK's first two batches. The 143's Kites have also started arriving.
Go-Ahead WVN42 and Arriva DW562 had a collision in Turnpike Lane bus station.

29th: Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 plane crashed, of all 181 onboard, 179 died with 2 cabin crew surviving. The crashed plane is almost unrecognisable in shape from it's horrible accident. Traffic controllers warned of a bird strike just prior to this accident unfolding. The plane landed on the runway but skid, crashed into a wall, becoming a fiery furnace right afterward.
Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States of America, has passed away at age 100. He's lived through the rise of communist regimes and lived through their collapse (the Soviet Union propped up 7 years before his birth, collapsed in 1991). He's also witnessed his country's invasion of Afghanistan and them leaving the country after 20 years of occupation only to end up very similar to pre-Soviet and pre-American influence.

30th: Metroline WHD2714 had a car hit the bus' rear doors whilst on route 245.

31st: Stagecoach Electroliners 82065-67 at Leyton (T) for type training, as the 257 has the type ordered for it and they are delivered.
Among many Arriva buses scrapped very recently were EMC12-14, the early batch of Optate Metrocities for H98 which were transferred to 312. Enviro400 T162 had engine knock, which typically sells the fate of such damaged Cummins engine vehicles to the scrapheap.
Go-Ahead EH299 (in Prezee advertisement wrap) hit a tree whilst on 77 in the final hours of the year.

Among New Years extras and specials, is a notable lack of overnight services in some suburbs. The N15 truncated to Aldgate instead of last year's Trafalgar Square. N271 received extras for the first time between 2200 and 2400 hours, likely down to reroute of the 21.
