January
First 'rare' on LVF was  VW1186 on N297 and VMH45327 on N97.
First tenders on 8th March.

The New Year started amazingly with Abellio's strike on the 31st meaning less night buses, whilst as usual other buses got extras. The N109 could've been one but the strike scuppered that to say the least.
N109s doing Streatham-Croydon, N207 Marble Arch-Hayes, N3 Brixton-Bromley, 159 Kennington-Streatham.
Among all the routes that had extra services and/or overnight service, only the 35 ran an overlap, (Shoreditch-Brixton and Elephant-Clapham Common), buses seemingly unable to venture west of Clapham Common to Clapham Junction.

1st: Rumours say 235 could move to Fulwell (FW) due to ongoing issues setting up chargers at Hounslow Heath (WK).
Rail fare rises by 5.9% in line with wage growth (instead of inflation) but will not take place until March.

2nd: A 215 got arsoned in Walthamstow.
3rd: A 97 got arsoned in Walthamstow.

4th: Not particularly new news, but BBC makes an article of Tuesday to Thursday being the new office week.
After many months, the final Abellio Electroliner has been delivered, 3018, having left Wright's Ballymena factory late last year.
Abellio striking for 48 hours.
Tender Programme reveals the 11/N11 and 129 removed.

A 179 got arsoned in Woodford.

5th: VWH2430 hit by falling scaffolding in Willesden, no injuries or major damage.

6th: 433's Caetanos received BV72 registrations.
TEs from Potters Bar (PB) ready for takeup on the 142 tomorrow, as they flood the 32, allowing 32's TEHs to move to Cricklewood (W) during the middle of the day as opposed to during the evening as buses do their last duties which is the typical way transfers happen.
In East, 37530 had a fire on 165 at Rainham Tesco at 0022.

7th: 142 takeover, added as usual with Metroline, extra qualifiers. We knew of "Brent Cross, SHOPPING CENTRE" but more have been added. I won't capitalise them for space reasons but: "Bushey Heath, Three Crowns" as well as new curtailments "Watford, Town Centre" "Canons Corner" and a revised version of Colindale Superstores "Colindale, Edgware Road"
To the surprise of how anticlimactic the announcement was in October, the 142/642 were announced to get Wright's Electroliners following the 297.
Transferring to make space for 142/642 was 32 to Cricklewood (W) which made 316 move to Willesden Junction (WJ), ensuring no driver transfers as each garage has work balanced perfectly, as all things should be. Kind of, as 316 has some journeys with Cricklewood (W) drivers in the same fashion 186 is partly Edgware (EW) drivers whilst predominantly Harrow Weald (HD).
Throwing a slight spanner in perfection is 218 moving back to Westbourne Park (X), this allowed the stood down WLSs to be reused, with the DEs 218 acquired moving to Edgware (BT) for 226..

The 226 passes over from Metroline to RATP with brand new electrics on the way, in the interim diesels filling in (thanks to 470's loss last December and 72's cut last year which gave it's DEs to 218/228), surprised to many as BEs since 10.8m E200s were hard to navigate on the route. Rumours said the 226 would be delayed to coincide with 142, which was revealed to be true as 226 pushed to January start from the initial 14 October 2022 date. Yes this paragraph has been copied from the 2022 year-roundup post. An interesting addition is a "226 Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's" blind, with the route envisioned for the extension in the next decade presumably in conjunction with HS2. Bearing in mind 226 is on a 7-year contract. Also bearing in mind a 226 to Ladbroke Grove would be circuitous from either Golders Green or Ealing, referencing the Old Oak Common papers the 226 would be split: (Golders Green - Old Oak Common) and (Ealing Broadway - Neasden, Shopping Centre) thus one of the halves could serve it.
In spite of 226 and 251 part regression to 9.7m DDEs, the service of 226 has been quite the typical first day syndrome, unlike with 125 which was surprisingly good at first.
By Wednesday it was decided the DDEs should only be used on 251, as reports of 226 dwell times worsening with the shorter buses has been noted.
Thursday saw all the DDEs allocated to 326 instead, with proclamation of 2008-2010 DEs being replaced. Though it turns out TfL requested the DDEs not to be used on 226 nor 251, thus 326 was the next victim.

142's ADEs found themselves a new home in storage at NC until it was decided a few should return to service on 288/303 following capacity issues with DDEs, then back to home sweet home at Hounslow (AV) for the H98, whom RATP have taken the opportunity to offload more Scanias.

Slight iffyiness on the last day, with some 142s seen displaying "Not in Service" but tracking along the full route as if in service, some buses curtailed but uncurtailed leading to them being 30 minutes late. Then the bus that would form the last bus (running number BT258) in service but not tracking.

Last 142: ADH45279 not tracking. VH45305 finished at Brent Cross 01:53
Last 642: ADE40412 at 16:10
Last 226*: DE1644 at 01:35
First 142: TE1085 and TE1307 at 04:47     first stray VMH2498
First 642: TE1078 at 07:00
First 226*: DE20196 at 04:44

* First 3 northbound and Last 4 southbound buses start/terminate at Hanger Lane.

Network Rail strike meant closures of the Elizabeth Line and many Overground lines after 1730 or 1830, with the Hammersmith & City not running too.
Train drivers were offered a 4% pay rise for two years in a row, to end strike action.

8th: As a result of WHDs not capable of being serviced fully, Perivale (PV)'s routes announced for further cuts to compensate.

10th: Abellio strike.

National Express Group consolidated it's tourist/leisure services into one brand: Touromo. Bringing together 7 brands from Lucketts Group and Stewarts Group into that one brand name.
13th: Tri-axle TA1 at River Road (RR), appearing on 687.

14th: The long touted part electrification of 68 was meant to happen, as the stored Electroliners meant for 111 have been in store for months on end without ever seeing service due to electrification problems at Fulwell (TF).
Didn't happen. The date changed to the 28th. Nothing until the 31st with only one Electroliner touching U5, and no electrics on 68 until 7 February, with a roll out of at least 4 E400EVs, a newer one on 68 with the rest being 63's ones with 63 using the U5 ones..
Fun fact: By this point it was discovered the 111's Electroliners weren't purchased outright, but financed by Rock Road. Meaning these are leased, as most Abellio buses have been for a decade now. Contradictory statements from articles of yesteryear and today either way.

The 635 moves from RATP to Metroline with 3 existing VWHs released from 295's loss last year.
Last 635: ADH45028 at 15:41
First 635: VWH2274 at 07:27

A shooting happened in Euston, with many injuries and a child in critical health. No deaths thankfully.

15th: Nepal plane crash, with 69 of the 72 onboard dead.
The pantograph at Crystal Palace bus station for 358 has been installed.

16th: Abellio strike.
17th: Snow and ice in the UK, with one incident of a 70-people StreetDeck overturning in ice in Somerset, no fatalities but many wounded.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Line performs above targets with 3 million more passengers than predicted, translating into £9 million more revenue than target.
18th: Nurses and teachers strike.
19th: Abellio strike.
Blackwall Tunnel closed, with someone blocking it. The 108 diverted via Tower Bridge until all buses were south of the river.
An article reveals the ADL Enviro100EV could've been released with a Wheel-Forward variant and diesel versions, though they settled with a diesel-electric hybrid until electric infrastructure is readily and widely available across the country, with an all-electric option for those that can.
Bexleyheath bus changes consultation (changing 269 B13 B14 termini). Conveniently enough, B13's new BYDs  were registered, LB72-reg.
Stagecoach 12394 got scrapped, after 12283 revealed to be stripped.
20th: By this point BE37088 has arrived at Edgware (BT), the first of 226's electrics.
Leyton Station to receive a £14m upgrade after a joint bid from Transport for London and Greater London Authority.
Another £14m package sees an upgrade between Sutton and Belmont, with an extra siding at Belmont allowing an increase of 4 trains per hour through Belmont and Sutton. Step-free access is also part of the upgrade.
Sutton (A) has chargers installed ready for it's new electric buses.
Self-driving Enviro200MMC takes it's first 22 volunteer passengers over the Forth Road bridge.
An article reveals Stagecoach's co-founder Dame Ann was involved in human trafficking.

21st: The B13 returns to Bexleyheath (BX) after 24 years at Arriva with 19 years at Dartford (DT) garage using single-door 9.4m Cadets from 2004 until 2015 then Enviro200MMCs until this date with the single door layout kept as an unspoken grandfather agreement, despite routes like 162 permanently losing such privileges with the 2006 specification changes enshrining that buses longer than 9m to be dual door. Routes like 484 P5 simply gained another door to their 9.3m buses whilst P13 downgraded to 8.8m before upgrading back to 9.3m but with dual doors.
The B13 joins the above routes thanks to it gaining fixed stops the years prior, it wasn't smooth due to TfL's financial problems, with the B13 technically non-stop at New Eltham, showing how bad the state was, though they got round to installing bus stops along the route with no issue given enough time.
Now, there is no more single door 9.7m bus route, which is a shame, as one aspect from a long gone era of bus flexibility gone. Not that anyone will want 372 to have single door 10.7m Darts again, mind you.
SEe168 and SEe171 entered service on the next Saturday, so quite a lot earlier than the projected September mentioned by LBR.

Another change to B13 is now that it'll start and terminate at Bexleyheath Library, reducing the time it takes to navigate Bexleyheath since Bexleyheath Library until this date has been a double-run. This, in addition to a frequency cut (from every 15 to every 20) making the saving of the -2 buses.
Another reason is to free stand space so 422 moves from Woolwich Road to Friswell Place.
The stops had their tiles added/removed a week early.

Last month had hope for 318's battered old ENs being replaced partly, with 377 converting from it's EN (MMCs) to ENRs (from B13) then those LK16-reg ENs move to 318. Though the ENRs instead ended up sold off.

47 retained on this date.

Last bus: ENR3 at 01:04
First bus: SEe104 at 05:15

23rd: Hounslow accident whereby a dangerously driven H28 ran over a 40-year old whom passed away shortly after, rest in peace. The driver was arrested.

25th: Abellio strike for 48-hours.
Future consultations in Alperton, Brent Cross, Havering, Tooting, Wanstead and Wembley announced for 2023. Some of these mentioned last year.

Hackney Council to make 75% of it's borough Low Traffic Neighbourhood.
Ee86 type training at Orpington (MB) for 353.
Enfield Council with proposals for new fixed stops on 456 west of Clay Hill on the section previously W10 (a route with many Hail & Ride before converting into 456)
27th: 12321 had a fire on N205 on Pentonville Road.
Abellio management buyout confirmed to happen in the coming months by Greater Anglia MD.
28th: The long touted part electrification of 68 was meant to happen, as the stored Electroliners meant for 111 have been in store for months on end without ever seeing service due to electrification problems at Fulwell (TF). The date changed to the 28th.
Didn't happen.
Some of the buses moved to Hayes (DS) to service U5 to warm the fresh buses up, moving U5's E400EVs to Walworth (WL) on the 68, thus allowing the released LTs from 68 to go on H32 for the March start.

Reading Buses ordered new diesel Enviro400 Citys, 6 for the 702 and 2 for 703, arriving in April.
29th: IE2 delivered at Orpington (MB).

31st: Abellio Electroliner 3019 enters service on U5.
A leaked email reveals the final pay deal of 13.5% pay increase by Abellio and if rejected, no other offer made. Cost saving measures enacted by removing working rest days for all drivers (normal services and rail replacement services) until strike actions have subsided.

February

1st: 500,000 workers across the country on strike from various lines of work.
ASLEF and RMT rail strike on most lines (excluding Elizabeth Line, Eurostar and other non-London networks).
Go-Ahead Group's Brighton & Hove buys Southdown PSV, as it's newest subsidiary.
2nd: 53 years of service with 1574 production planes, the final Boeing 747 left it's Boeing factory.
EMC1 returned to service after years of it being unserviced, assumed scrapped.
3rd: Ee94-107 received registrations.
271's last day, which is also 263's contract's final day. Not a coincidence, as 263 uses the 271's contract moving forward. The route 271 died, but 263's contract expired.
The bus number 271 may have only been 73 years old. The trolleybus route may have only been
The cable tram started the century-long Moorgate to Highgate route. Opened in 1884 between Archway to Highgate Village, poor reliability etecetera, then by 1906 joined the tram network thus into it's current route. In 1939 the tram was converted to trolleybus 611. Then in 1960, it was converted to diesel buses, 271.
The stops had their tiles added/removed about two weeks early.

For the final day Highgate Village stand was blocked by contractors for water works, so 271s terminated at Archway.

Last 271: VWH2097 at 00:41 at Archway
The N271 from North Finchley to Moorgate wasn't tracking properly, so first bus wasn't logged in.

Another ASLEF + RMT rail strike.
4th: 91 moves to Go-Ahead, assumed to be from Northumberland Park (NP) but due to staff shortages started it's life at Stockwell (SW) whom also received a part allocation of 76 towards the end of 2021. A good amount of 91's EHVs (released from loss of 135 in 2022) have been refurbished to a gleaming colour. One, EHV6, has since been in an accident on the 88 last year.
Either way, the 91 is technically using older buses than it's previous operator. Technically, because 91 had been using LTs until it swapped following multiple crashes at Crouch End. Thus 91 used 2017 VWHs and VMHs (2018) swapped with other routes. Now the 91 is using 2015 EHVs.
The 67 106 214 all received Stockwell (SW) duties as a result of driver shortages since September 2022, now with the win of 91 the 76's 10 Stockwell (SW) duties and all 214 duties returned to Northumberland Park (NP) in conjunction with the 76 receiving extra journeys it received from 21's removal of the Newington Green area.
Much like the previous contract change with an added "226 Ladbroke Grove, Sainsbury's" the 91 has an addition of it's own "91 Wood Green Station" which may be related to the upcoming Haringey review scheme.

The 107 moved from Edgware (EW) to Potters Bar (PB) using X140's spare VWHs and 234 from Potters Bar (PB) to Holloway (HT), replacing 271's lost work.
The 263 converted to B5LHs from 91's loss and 271's withdrawal, with some 5 Evosetis ex-317 also allocated.

Due to 271's withdrawal, the 21's extension to Holloway to replace 271 also happened. The 21 previously only terminated at Moorgate since World War 2 until 2006, having re-extended to Newington Green to aid an overcrowded 141. Ever since the section has been quieter, especially as since the 21 ballooned in frequency. Many an enthusiast has questioned 21's Newington Green section whilst 141s were well loaded as passengers required further than Newington Green. It made sense for TfL to remove the section, though replacing it with two peak journeys on 141 and two peak journeys on 76 felt backhanded in my opinion from the amount of cuts that happened in the capital, but some extra bus is better than none at all. Especially since 76 got a frequency cut in 2021.
129 moves too, from Morden Wharf (MG) to New Cross (NX), supposedly a temporary move due to roadworks in the areas in addition to driver shortages with a provisional return for 29 April.

Last 91: VWH2015 at 01:02
Last N91: VWH2005 at 06:30

200th refurbishment of LTs, signalling 20% completion.
7th: Abellio 3436 becomes the first electric on 68, following weeks of promise of the change.
8th: First to acquire Ensign Bus Company! Shocker! Acquiring the bus operations as well as the secondhand bus sale business, leaving only the heritage operation behind. First have constantly been downsizing across the country (and in the world to some degree), so an acquisition is very different!
9th: WDE2769 enters service on 134.
10th: Abellio accepted the 13.5% pay deal with rest day working reinstated immediately. No more strikes. New salary of £31K and two years experienced with £40K.

Abellio 3401 3402 and 3403 don new route branding promoting the 63.
19th: Six week delay for new blinds is the reason most transfer of diesel Enviro400s appearing on 36 when they're meant for 321, coming from Peckham (PM) to replace B9TLs at New Cross (NX). The old Peckham (PM) sets contain 36 thus they serviced 36 until new sets can come in.
20th: First production Volvo BZL 10.8m single deck delivered to Stagecoach West Scotland, part of 25 on delivery.
More delivery of new BYDs seen in the Sutton area, with 213 poised as first to convert with the garage envisage for a 10 April finish date.
London Fire Brigade took an order for 9 Optare Solos, somehow making the design look uglier.

23rd: Word of 220 converting to VHs have come up. This is after rumours of 10 13reg VHs ending up at Park Royal (RP). The C3 converting to BCEs released from 94's frequency cut, with OMEs reallocated to 28 (which already has some OMEs allocated from 23's cut)
24th: One year anniversary of the Ukraine conflict. Southeastern Class 707001 was named "Spirit of Ukraine" in ceremony at Cannon Street.
25th: With the success of Manchester bus franchising, Liverpool looks to do the same.

27th: Word comes out again that RATP plan on moving 235 to Fulwell (FW) following ongoing difficulties electrifying Hounslow Heath (WK). The 85 and 71 to move to Tolworth (TV) allowing 235 to slot in Fulwell (FW) apparently. Night operation of 85 to remain at Fulwell (FW) though.
Trustybus to open up a new depot on the location of ceased operators in Harlow, called Riverway.
New Bank station entrance opened on this date, 7 year long costing £700m.

28th: Abellio management change press release, their name to change to Transport UK Group. No more Abellio operating in the UK.
Greece train crash whereby 36 people died and 85 injured. Rest in peace to those lost and a speedy recovery.

March

1st: Unions inform of a closure of Kings Cross (KC) in two months.
A login of LT102 on 237 sparked controversy, with it apparently doing testing in service.
All Class 175 trains taken out of service tonight after 3 fires the last four weeks.
TfL announced on twitter the introduction of new Countdown boards with 300 new ones across the capital in every borough.
2nd: First ordered a further 117 Wright buses, bringing the total order to 310.

4th: What was a shocking event, and amazing to some circles, was RATP's loss of two routes in one go. Both of these routes prepared to use New Routemasters released from cuts, though both routes lost. In the same fashion 111 was prepared to be using LTs but ended up lost to Abellio with electrics. This time they didn't lose two routes to an operator using electrics. Instead, RATP losing at their own gamble. The H32 to Abellio and H91 to Metroline.
The H32 which was mentioned to have an extension in Southall has been quietly dropped and since had a frequency decrease upon contract, which bodes well for Abellio West's inability to operate well with 111 tanking the operation to terrible lows.
On the other hand, the H91 will be amazing to use again. With woeful 45 minute waits becoming common with staff shortages being rife, sometimes it'd be normal to see many buses missing without assuming iBus was playing weird. Coupled to that with seemingly normal RATP service control where buses bunch without regulation, and you have a recipe for terrible service. Metroline, whilst not in the eyes of many enthusiasts 'fun', they are good at providing good service without issues. Have they done it on H91? I could bet it, as I write this sentence in January.
Allegedly the last H91 was cut, ending a horrible service with a horrible end, with the serviced two bunched at Hammersmith.
Another interesting development has been specific driver recruitment for the H91, drivers getting a £2000 joining bonus + £500 if they join before 10 March - H91's first date of course.

What's certain is H91's VHs have a newfound use again (it converted to LTs and deconverted), this time for 203's double deck conversion.

The standalone N97 also changes operators, from Tower Transit RATP Dev Transit London to Go-Ahead at Putney (AF). As usual, existing hybrids from day routes to be used.

The 427 was cut from Acton to Southall on this date, allowing drivers shuffled onto H32.

Last H32: SP40206 at 01:23
Last H91: VH45262 at 00:33 at Hammersmith and VH45269 at Hounslow West at 00:33

187 and 487 retained on this date, with electrics entering service later in July

- Brent Cross; minor reroutes on most routes with 316 and 326 extended to Brent Cross West. 189 rerouted via the station with 102 210 and C11 rerouted near there.
7th: A staff notice at RATP mentions of a business review that stresses, could see the sale/dilution of RATP stakeholding. Improvements also in operation performance in the past 2 months.

HS2 construction to be delayed in bid to cut costs, I paraphrase a BBC article title.
Arriva decides to pull out of the £6.1 million investment in Stevenage of electric buses that Stevenage was granted a £198m government investment in 12 English areas. Arriva will keep it's existing fleet and also reduce services.
10th: Silicon Valley Bank failed, becoming the 2nd largest banking disaster.
11th: Word comes out RATP's 10% pay rise last year is unsustainable, perhaps following multiple tender losses including flagship route 9.
TfL confirmed a sigh of relief that 94 will not be removed from Oxford Street.
12th: LT1000 back in service after 15 months off road, only for one trip. Conversely it was the first time LT11 had a full service day.

An image leaked of Stagecoach UK Bus Group electric vehicle fleet renumbering, due to a lack of fleetnumbers in the current range, they'd adopt the 8xxxx usually used for loans for the electric double decks, with 7xxxx used for electric single decks, for London this will be the changes:

Other companies outside London also following suit, seems Europe has a similar system in place.. The reason is so that the Fire Brigade know what type of bus it is (and not put water on a burning electric bus - making matters worse). Seven stickers per bus.
Type training completed at Merton (AL), with half dozen electrics on 163 with a few entering on 164.

29th: East London's month, 366 and 368 change hands. Stagecoach lost 366. Arriva lost 368.
Go-Ahead gained 366. Go-Ahead gained 368. Truly two wins for River Road (RR), if not for the facr difficulty with electrification meant 366 would temporarily run from Henley Road (DS). The 40 which will receive electrics graciously didn't donate to the 368 as predicted, though rather the 119's spared WHVs became 368's allocation. Reported to be a temporary measure by mid-May. Many at Barking (DX) thought the 368 could be retained, though it seems that operation has silently been declared a lost cause, with minor driver shortages hitting into 368's service reliability ever since 248 was taken up. Not as noticeable as the poor shambles in West London at RATP and Abellio faced in 2022 into this year. Regardless, the 368 keeps the curse of returning back to Go-Ahead in one shape or another, through buying the company, buying the company, or now via contract win. At least Arriva didn't get bought out with 368 in tow.
Single deck 366 stays single deck, stays with the same frequency. Becomes zero emission later in the year, in the interim using 65-reg diesel Enviro200s released from the electrification of 163/164 at Merton (AL).

Last 366: 36280 at 01:21

The 11 taking 507's contract, the 108 taking 521's contract.
TfL accidentally deleted the N11 N26 and seemingly 23 and 56 from iBus. In addition, only RATP had issues with blind displays on the reroutes, with 23s banditised (running with wrong/blank displays, with paper on windscreen), as RATP apparently forgot to order blinds for it's reroute. So eastbound 23s were either displaying blank, or displaying "Hyde Park Corner" It took until mid-May for people to report seeing correct blinds for Aldwych buses.

July

1st: A failed anticipation for routes changes in the tranche the 265 resided in (look at how many retains after this paragraph), though at least one route changed. Some argue for the better, some argue an unfortunate loss. Either way, it's another homecoming. Putney (AF) sees 265 again after two decades without, with space at the depot following harsh cuts in Central London making 209/378 fit in with ease. The 265 also sees Go-Ahead return westward to Tolworth.
As a result of the 265 loss, work was shuffled with the 85 moved from Fulwell (FW) to Tolworth (TV) with the 216 moving from Hounslow Heath (WK) to Fulwell (FW).
For this 265 win, the 337 moved to Stockwell (SW) to create space. That said 337 still has some drivers from Stockwell (SW) in addition to the middle rotas being from Putney (AF). Fun fact S1 does similar from Sutton (A) for it's middle rotas.

The same YX65 Enviro200s released at Merton (AL) used on 366 have been utilised here on 265, as it turns out the blindset had both 265 and 366! Suddenly within the week of 366's takeover, 20 new electrics have been registered. Thus, putting the dots together, the next temporary home for those disliked ZF-gearbox Enviro200s to be Putney (AF) within two months.

New Superloop branding for 607/SL8 spotted, looking very similar to 607's branding with it's Volvo Olympians in the late 1990s. However the new branding has mixed feelings in the enthusiast space, with Hayes in the branding but larger towns Acton and Southall omitted.

21st: Labour failed to gain the Uxbridge seat where the Tories gained by a slim margin of 495 votes. Lib Dem got Frome and Labour got Selby. Seems 607 being rushed into SL8 with a press launch didn't help voters' anger at ULEZ.
22nd: 23 (it's 2020 contract terminated) and 53 retained on this date
1-day Travelcards to not be sold from January 2024 onwards.
23rd: The first of enhanced services into Heathrow. First Slough's RA3 from Watford Junction to Heathrow Central. Followed next day by Reading Buses 730 via Frimsley.
The start of a full week tube strike lasting until 28 July has been announced by RMT Union, different staff roles striking on the same and/or different days. Government cracking down on railway staff conditions (e.g being sick for more than 7 days gets you sacked, replacing striking staff with agency staff, etc) has been bitter for the railway industry, now very unsavoury and an attack on the workers by the politicians - to say the least.
Bus use doubled at Abbey Wood and Custom House since opening of Elizabeth Line, an article worth reading.
Me11 sporting a new terrible zero emission livery, along with EP9/13 and BCE47031.
24th: Announced in mid-May, Wandsworth Bridge closed from this date for 10 weeks, repairing the 83-year old bridge.
New temporary route 728 to cover between Fulham and Wandsworth via Battersea Bridge (every 20 mins), with N28 diverted via Battersea Bridge. The first of it's buses have been seen with 133 C2 and C3 blinds, using an old blindset with inserts for the addition of 133/N133 and 728. Operation started poorly with resources stretched thin with lack of drivers covering duties across the 728 and 718 (Harrow & Wealdstone - Queens Park, Bakerloo/Overground replacement) - this lead to irregular waits of 40-45 minutes and bunching on the short 728 route that's meant to be every 20. In addition TfL haven't uploaded schedules on countdown thus making it unknown when it's due, a complicated map, some stops not having a 728 tile, with all stops on curtailed 28/295/C3 retaining their tiles (no red X mark covering them).

26th: Aslef and Unite members London Underground strike. Pension changes postponed until September 2026...

28th: Aslef and Unite join RMT in striking again.
Court throws out ULEZ ruling.

29th: W6 moved from Enfield (E) to Wood Green (WN)
The long standing arrangement of 171 using Catford (TL) to stand despite being operated by London Central (now a subsidiary of Go-Ahead London) has ceased. Buses running out of service to turn around at Downham Way/Old Bromley Road and standing outside the garage. In practice drivers may choose to U-turn, but they can still use toilet facilities at Catford (TL). Moments like when Catford (TL) had an open day did see difficulty of 171's use of Catford (TL) in a similar manner albeit a one-day event. A frequency decrease from every 12 to every 13 as a result of this 171 change.
On this date 486 became a full 24-hour route, having previously a weekend 24-hour route - much like the rest of the routes post-pandemic had the night service suspended.
Stagecoach unveiled the Metrocity's on the 339, with a full rollout (unlike 322) from start of the day to the end of the day.
30th: Me1-17 at Merton (AL) all to have the "I'm an electric bus" branding. Meanwhile 339 has only used 3 Metrocitys with the rest made up of diesels - a far cry from yesterday's glory.
31st: Two consultations: 309 in Poplar a reroute plus evening increase; 281 in Tolworth extension from it's terminus to the station.
Route X68 renumbered SL6 at a cost exceeding £150K (£74K vinyl wraps on the E400MMCs, £47K on stop/shelter branding, £9K on stop information changes)

More BEs arrive at Edgware (BT) for 226.

19th: X26 has been renumbered SL7 on this date at a cost exceeding £150K. A frequency increase from every 30 to every 15, an extra last bus out of Heathrow at night. First bus out of West Croydon leaving 5 minutes earlier. 1 journey starts at Wallington Green towards Heathrow, whilst (4 weekday, 2 Saturday, 1 Sunday) journeys start at New Malden towards Heathrow. The route would start/terminate at West Croydon Bus Station instead of Delta Point.
(Cost breakdown: £130K on vinyls on buses, £17K on stop shelter branding, £8K on stop information changes) Data says 62% increase in usage in the months after this frequency doubling.
DLR closed between Stratford International and Canning Town until the 29th.

417 retained on this date, moved from Norwood (N) to Brixton (BN). The 137's split allocation at both garages goes from 14 BN 15 N to 9 BN 20 N. The N137 has stayed at Norwood (N) meaning it crosslinks with 137 instead of 417.

Former 607, now SL8, has earlier and later journeys added.
22nd: Wright Kite Electroliner demo seen in grey with camouflaged front, with an Abellio interior, seen on the M40 by Longbridge.
Metroline seemingly converted 297's WDEs to the 113 instead, with VMHs headed the other way to Perivale (PV). Bearing in mind 142/204 have 297's intended WDEs whilst PV had the 142/204's WDEs delivered.

123 and 158 had their conversion to fully 24-hour services; previously suspended weekend 24-hour routes.
86 had a Sunday frequency increase whilst 141 had it's evening frequency increased.
79 rerouted at Alperton via 224 to Stonebridge Park. 83 extended in Alperton to the Sainsbury's. Seemingly a second instance of RATP not having blinds ready for the change (23 being the previous one).
64 612 retained on this date

Abellio conducted a successful route test on E6 with the unpainted Kite Electroliner seen shortly before on tow on delivery.

27th: Yesterday Arriva EA16 collided into a low bridge off-route on Latchmere Road whilst in service on 319.

September

1st: Starting the school term fresh with over a hundred school closures due to collapse-risk concrete.
Electroliner demo EL1 at Westbourne Park (X)
Type training started at Camberwell (Q) for 40's electrics

2nd: Surprises mounted when it was revealed 340 only had two bids. Word came out later that Arriva didn't bid for the 340, with citings to the StreetDecks wiping out profits made as they constantly went mechanical whether in-service or engine being off, even using far more coolant than equivalent double deckers should. Electrical problems were known as well, as SW1 and others had improvements to rectify it but mostly for naught.

On the other hand the 251 moves from it's decade home of Edgware (BT) to... Edgware (EW)! The last time Metroline had the route it was from far away North Wembley (NW) and Cricklewood (W) for the final 2 years. The 251 has been a stellar route under London Sovereign until RATP took over the operations, on top of winning a bulk load of routes which stressed resources and control thinner. As a result, the 251 became a noticeably less reliable route. The buses themselves have also been good maintenance-wise. Likewise with more that the company gained, the worse as a whole it got. The maintenance of the old Enviro200s was no different to 251 itself. In need of change. Change it received.
The 251 has a restriction, low trees, so cannot go double deck. There are also relatively tight roads so it can't use DMEs. So how Metroline got to ordering 10.8m Volvo BZLs and expect it to work flawlessly after around 6 attempts of ordering vehicles larger than the previous size and failing... was a victorious ask.

The 223 consultation has closed and successful and TfL decided to extend further to Harrow Weald Oxhey Lane but will require an additional consultation.
8th: Elizabeth Line stations (Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street) to all have 4G and 5G network connectivity by the end of Spring 2024, with coverage expanding on the Northern Line.

Even more roads announced to go 20mph in London in the boroughs of Bromley, Greenwich, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Southwark and Wandsworth. Article link.
13th: Turns out TfL did consider replacing 84's cutback section from Potters Bar to Barnet, but did not follow through mostly due to low demand and estimated low cost return on the route.
Westminster Council approved the revamp of Oxford Street, approving an initial £7.7 million with up to £25 million from businesses being looked. No pedestrianisation but pavements made wider, crossings wider, longer pedestrian traffic light phases. All turns at Oxford Circus banned, straight ahead only.
Former London Central PVL246/247 are now tree cutting units in the UK.
Xbox to introduce a new Mastercard Credit Card, 6 years after Playstation. Albeit Xbox Game Pass has more features than Playstation's offerings...

14th: In preparation for upcoming 276/D3 changeovers, the 366 started converting from it's own 10.2m electrics to the 10.8m SEe's meant for 265. This allows D3 to use the 366's 10.2m SEe's.
15th: Every sign at Bond Street Station was replaced with "Burberry Street" which caused mass confusion unsurprisingly.
Arriva introducing changes to pay starter rates and Terms & Conditions which led to the loss of routes (e.g 242 which has been at the company as long as the company)
16th: D3 moved from Stagecoach to Go-Ahead with a frequency decrease. I was silently convinced TfL were still going ahead with the reroute in the consultation (D3 going from a Leamouth-Bethnal Green route into a Leamouth-Crossharbour route) since the PVRs were similar but I was proven wrong.
New electric buses have been the play of the game for a few years and that is uninterrupted. All that can be said is good riddance old 2009 Enviro200s. Changeovers only towards Leamouth, at East India Dock Station.

Heading the other way is 276, from Go-Ahead to Stagecoach. Surprise order of Volvo BZLs, unlike the tenacity of ADL buses that Stagecoach were known for, though they did have a management change which may explain this change of heart over the year. Alas, the electric buses were late, so the buses made redundant from 366's loss in April were used here, moved to Lea Interchange (LI) where the 276 operates from. Not Bow (BW) which is mid-route but full. Not West Ham (WH) which is also mid-route and nearer empty. Changeovers predominantly at Trowbridge Estate which is very close to 236's terminus, allowing for 276s to use the same arrangement to get to Lea Interchange (LI). Some also happen at Bow Church for access to Bow (BW).
As a result of new blinds for the 276, the W14's terminus has changed from "Leyton, Superstores" to "Leyton Mills, Retail Park"

Stagecoach's Electroliners for 199 and 86 have been registered LV73-plates, they have the TfL interior (like on E40H Cities) and yellow poles as opposed to Stagecoach's interior and orange poles (albeit with the rebranding they've changed their interior nationwide to blue poles and grey leather seats).
The third London Bus Museum running day happened on this date, featuring route 38!

17th: HS2 at risk to terminate at Old Oak Common instead of Euston. Tory MPs threatened to remove funding, with Tory Mayor of West Midlands considering resigning. It's impossible to cancel Phase 2a without Commons approval as it's been made law.
18th: It's come about that 226 has difficulties using the 10.9m BEs, with occasions of cars reversing just so the bus fits. In addition, few drivers are type trained, chargers not working much. Leading to hurdles of difficulty getting 226 electric. Allegedly K5 [and 65, 71, 281, 371, 418, 639/670, E1] has been surrendered (joining 23/C3 28 283 481 to have done so, 306 328 for Metroline).

Routes 65 71 281 371 418 639/670 E1 K5 confirmed surrendered, with 406/481 tendered on one contract. Routes SL2 SL3 SL5 on short term contracts but for this statement SL3 is to be retendered with 269. Route 45 moved from Tranche 900 to 900A.
27th: Lately 265 had it's temporary YX65 Enviro200s swapped for YX61s from the loss of 276, in preparation for P4 the YX65s would be refurbished allegedly.
28th: 185's E400EVs and other routes E200EVs have been registered with LG73-plates.
30th: Today is of the first instance two awards with electrics actually started with electrics, the C3 using 363's Electroliners and two from 111; the 450 with it's own SEe's rushed into delivery and into service.
The 1 was rerouted at Holborn to Hampstead Heath. The 168 withdrawn. The 188 rerouted at Holborn to Tottenham Court Road to replace 1.
Quite a lot of words could be used to tell the stories cost cuttings and woes of lengthy routes, though the 88 was only the beginning of what seems to be, by luck or otherwise, Go-Ahead routes reaching other parts of North London. On the first day drivers were reportedly getting lost, with service becoming haywire.
The 1/N1 and 188 swapped garages. 1/N1 from Morden Wharf (MG) to Camberwell (Q), 188 from Camberwell (Q) to Morden Wharf (MG). The N1's allocation of Peckham (PM) inherited from 36 has transferred to Camberwell (Q) making N1 fully operated from one garage - Camberwell (Q).

Over in South London the 450 sees it's first ever change of operator, along with it's first ever decrease in service frequency. From 2001 until 2016 it had frequency increase after frequency increase, satiating the hunger of overcrowding the route developed. Going from single door to dual door in 2006 with new Darts replacing 5 year old Darts. Then becoming every 8 in 2016 with a PVR of 19 on par with many Central London routes post-2019 as cuts became rife in the city.
The 450 has, for all intents and purposes, became a more reliable route with each upgrade, plateauing in 2016. Now with TfL reaching for cuts where possible, they reverse the route back to it's pre-2016 status of every 10. A route that I remind you, had terrible overcrowding as the only route from Thornton Heath to Crystal Palace.
The electrification for C3 at Battersea (QB) allowed for 322's Metrocities to have more charge, this means diesel spares 8210 8211 8213 were sent to Beddington (BC) to do 404.

After RATP triggered a break clause in contracts whereby it can be terminated, the 23 and C3 went out to tender again. The 23 was retained with it starting in July, whereas C3 changed hands... back to Abellio! With new electrics! In the short interim, starting with existing buses.

Train strike on this date, in addition to Blackwall Tunnel being closed.

1st: West Yorkshire looking at bus franchising in a similar model to either London or Manchester/Liverpool(in-the-works), perhaps annoyance at First's monopoly with little of Arriva and Transdev.
Tourist bus service A that operates with Routemasters would later be extended from Trafalgar Square to Tower Hill and be renumbered T15 to lessen confusion.
2nd: Schools to ban phones apparently, amidst the Prime Minister calling Inflation... tax. - This man was a banker. Terrible party conference in Manchester happened with low turnout. Whilst the Tory candidate for Mayor of London said she'd be London's first female Labour mayor.
Fun facts: ex-CT Plus HK and AW use MyDAS to sign drivers, whilst the rest of Stagecoach use DASweb. Meaning loans between depots are difficult, though going from HK/AW to T is done, but not the other way around.
3rd: Lightning strike causes a gas explosion in Oxford's recycling plant.
Breaking news: Rishi Sunak to announce cutting HS2 from Manchester to West Midlands. It has come about the ballooned cost is down to money laundering.

Arriva LT833 had a small fire on 73 on Euston Road.
Go-Ahead OM3 seen with parts stripped out at Croydon (C)
4th: Tube strike meant to happen on this date and 6th were cancelled.
More electric buses (new before 2023) receive "I'm an electric bus" branding, Walworth (WL)'s Caetanos, the 319's E400EVs and Go-Ahead Ee's to name a few.
Among Sunak's [panic] announcements were a pledge to extent Metrolink to Manchester Airport (an extension open since 2014), and scrapping A-levels (that will go well for students in school currently). Wales having electrification which is a shock the Welsh government and Network Rail as there's no business case behind it. Selling off the land used by HS2 just to make the next government's job of continuing HS2 a lot harder.
5th: Another day another promise of 235 electrification coming closer, with Hounslow Heath (WK) said to be connected to the national grid. It will be 2 years come January.
6th: Apparently VMHs would be off to Holloway (HT) to service route 4 with VWHs placeholded for a potential E3 win, one VMH made the move and in service.
VMS2821 seen on delivery.
It's been noticed Kelsian (London Transit Ltd) sold their share in the joint-venture with RATP, with London Transit seemingly ceased as an operator. In addition Kelsian CFO Paul Ramond Cox resigned. Later revealed in November the shares were sold to RATP for £1.

Internal Stagecoach notice about mentioning 277 staying at West Ham (WH) going against prior confirmations ahead of new tender results
14th: 223 was awarded to Metroline again after... actually it's the first time. Alperton (ON) have never lost the route until 2018 yes, the 223 was retained in 2011. First left in 2013. The route was lost in 2018. The contract was novated indeed.
The long-winded way of me saying the 223 has returned home. Not quite, as the old Alperton (ON) has since been sold off with a new depot taking it's place as it builds up, having only the 83 as a quasi-outstation of Perivale (PV). Thus the 223's fresh Metroline life starts at Willesden Junction (WJ) effectively a stone's throw from the incumbent Park Royal (RP). Perhaps if it were at Harrow (SO) it may not have wound up lost.
What existing buses Metroline would have mustered was a mystery, with dealer stock being a natural assumption.

Last bus: DLE30308 at 00:39

Failed a route test with ENXs on the turn from Stanford Way into Rowan Road.
West Yorkshire's incumbent operators (Arriva, First, Transdev) convince the authority to go with enhanced partnership instead of franchising, harking similarity to Stagecoach and Rotala complaining (and going into court) regarding Manchester franchising.

My personal hatred day as Abellio's 1001 broke down by a narrow part of 322 at St Cloud Road, causing it to be diverted for 14 hours. Meanwhile Electroliner 3036 refused to start up, how I much it's now 1001 to never start up instead of 3036.

Already ADL received 100 orders from both types - Stagecoach with 55 E400EVs for Oxford; Transdev Blazefield 19 E400EVs for route 36. The H14's allocation moved out to Parr Road (CP) outstation to facilitate SL10 at Harrow (SO). H14 remains operated from Harrow (SO) on Sundays.
Route 223 extended to Eastman Village to release stand space for SL10.

December

1st: Pneumonia spreads in China, Netherlands and Ohio in United States.
Someone made a noise complaint to Luton Airport 8829 times in the year of 2022.
First of RATP bus strikes in December (also on 4th and 22-23) at Westbourne Park (X)
2nd: The 157 changes hands once again. Lasting a nice 7 years at Arriva, with a service that easily surpasssed Beddington Cross (BC) along with buses that didn't combust every week. No doubt the LJ59-reg Enviro400s inherited from 133 have worked very hard day and night (on N2/176/N137), though still were good towards the end in the same vein the VLAs were towards the end of 176. Workhorses. Well maintained workhorses. Partly sent off lease, replaced by ex-Barking (DX) LJ60-reg (blinded only for 64 157 249 417) and some ex-Dartford (DT) lot from 160's loss in addition to T227 from North (these containing the same set as the HTs which contained 202 and 690 but lacked 2X and 137) and T11 from 198.
The 157 returns to Go-Ahead whom lost the route from Merton (AL), gaining it back from a garage unknown at the time of tender. Some duties with drivers from Croydon (C), not different to how S1 currently is amongst other routes. Changeovers done at West Croydon just before the bus station from predominantly the Croydon (C) drivers, whilst Merton (AL) drivers changeover at Morden. Of course drivers from AL travel by 200 then tram to reach Croydon. C drivers travel by tram to Morden Road, late duties ferry by car instead.
Service on 157 started with common half-hourly gaps on the eastern end, effectively always the sacrificial section, Norwood Junction curtailments rife. Not unusual for difficulty on first month of operation, though half-hourly plus is a huge detriment.
Word of 280 deconverting to WVLs ex-D7 to allow 157 to start with existing WHVs from 280. Though turns out, 157 directly made use of those ex-D7 WVLs which were already reblinded whilst in East London, transitioning from dayglo blinds to white blinds, a set that includes both 157 and D7, though only capable of 157 whilst at Merton (AL).
Making space for 157 is the S1's move to Goat Road (GM) outstation.

Also changing hands after 25 years north of the river is the 78 returning to a different Peckham (PM), still a garage in the south operating the South London bus route into the city. Most tenders the 78 had, Arriva were not the lowest bidder but were lucky with joint bids including other routes. This latest round where 78 was fated for withdrawal it had a contract extension and reappeared in the tender programme, thus becoming a lone wolf... allowing for Go-Ahead to for the first time win the 78, filling in the loss of 363 cleanly like it never happened.

Over in East London, the D7 changes hands from Go-Ahead to Stagecoach, effectively replacing the D3 which also swapped over. Coincidentally both got reduced in frequency upon contract change. Stagecoach making use of their acquisition of CT Plus, with D7 heading straight into Hackney (HK). Diesel E400s released from 215's conversion to New Routemasters as well as 199's ongoing electrification in the meantime until electric Volvo BZLs arrive next year.
Blindset changes on the existing E400 Cities for routes 26/388 reveal they also contain 47 55 242 277.

One of W5's electrics entered service on 339, not tracking on countdown/LVF to see. Allegedly these failed the route test on W5 itself.

Route 34's partial allocation of buses parked at Edmonton (EC) has moved into Palmers Green (AD) making the route fully AD, with a frequency reduction (every 8 to 10; PVR from 22 to 18). The 34 would also stand at St James Street (increased stand space from 4 buses to 5 buses) making space for SL1 at Walthamstow Central.

Superloop Route SL1 started on this date with great publicity and leaflets with staff bearing superloop grey hi-vis, first bus was HA12 at 05:12. The rebranded HAs have the old Arriva logo unusually, whilst the HAs themselves not proving mechanically well, even their days on 78 they had issues.
The SL1's start would prove to be problematic with minimal bus priority, even being overtaken by regular 34s in instances where SL1s fight to be on the main carriageway.
